Our Story

Executive Board: Lois Brown, Tahsha Wilson, Jennifer Jenkins, Jo Layton, Margie Jordan

Operation Literacy started as an idea to hold a writing contest for teens back in 2009, but that idea grew into an initiative to host writing camps where teens could sharpen their literary skills and prepare themselves for the future.

The first Teen Author Boot Camp was held in 2011 on the Utah Valley University campus to create more reading and writing opportunities for underserved kids. Thus, Operation Literacy was born, and Teen Author Boot Camp has given way to Tween Author Boot Camp, Teen Dungeon Bootcamp, StoryCon USA. The organization also spearheads Book Drop, which delivers free books and author visits to Title One schools.

As the years have gone by, Operation Literacy has connected young writers with world-renowned bestselling authors in environments that foster creativity, problem solving, and connection. And we’ve only just begun.
